The ever changing face of Travel insurance is a constant worry to consumers and Brokers alike, these changes do nothing for broker/client confidence with the constant swapping of insurance companies. This does nothing to dispel the fears that change is in the clients best interests . However ,we are all in the hands of the underwriters who are the only people to make a loss if their calculations go wrong, so no wonder then that thay are a cautious lot. The cost of covering pre- exsisting medical conditions is in some circumstances more than the air fare, this problem must be addressed and one possible way forward maybe to extend the medical declaration questions to all applicants which would include, ‘when did you last visit your GP for a check up’. I fail to see why clients who are aware of their blood presure /cholesterol levels and take the necessary precautions to keep this controlled are any more at risk than people who are oblivious to these conditions and have not seen their GP in years.
